Entry 28-06-2015: Characteristics of a Dove

"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:"

In the Bible, the Holy Spirit is known to take various forms and is represented with a
variety of symbols like a Dove (Mathew 3:16), Fire (Acts 2:3), Wind(Acts 2:2), Water
(John 3:5), Cloud (Exodus 16:10), and Anointing oil (Acts 10:38). Our focus here would be

on the Dove, which is an emblem of purity and harmlessness (Mathew 10:16), and as a
symbol of the Holy Spirit. The mention of a dove always brings about the thought of
peace and the presence of the Holy Spirit. The occasion mentioned in the passage above
showed a real visible appearance of the Holy Spirit in the form of a Dove, which was
doubtlessly seen by the people.

The form of the dove was assumed on this occasion to signify that the Spirit with which
Jesus would be endowed with through His baptism, would be one of purity and
innocence. As Christians, we rely on the Holy Spirit to direct our path and lead us into
all righteousness so we must always be reminded that the Holy Spirit is inseparable
from the Word of God. It can be noted that whenever the Holy Spirit is mentioned in
scripture, you would immediately find the Word around the Holy Spirit. For example
when we read the Bible we see the different ways God spoke; Moses went to Mt.
Sinai and was with God on the Mountain for forty days and came back with a message
for the people of Israel, David wrote book of Psalm under the power of the Spirit, John
in Revelation sees and talks to the resurrected Jesus who tells him to write a letter to
seven churches, Paul saw a vision of Jesus on the road to Damascus and was
commissioned to bring the Gospel to the Gentiles, etc.

These are just few examples to emphasise the fact that the Holy Spirit never operates
without the Word of God. Therefore, one way we Christians can test and identify a true
man of God who claims to use the Holy Spirit to perform miracles and wonders is if he
orshe does so in collaboration with the Word of God. And for us to be sure that we are
in theright place with God, we must focus on the Word to lead us to the true will of God
and to nurture our spirit. This relationship between the Holy Spirit and the Word can be
likened tothe strong connection between the Dove and the seed that it feeds on. Unlike
the Raven that feeds on carcass and dead things, the Dove is always looking for clean,
fresh seeds and neither engages in death works nor feeds on things that are unclean.
It does not scavenges or steal what it eats and never compromises when it comes to
its feeding. As Christians, the Dove in this scenario can represent the Holy Spirit living
in us and the seed as the Word of God. Therefore, in order to exhibit the beautiful
characteristics of the Dove in our lives, we must feed our spirit with the good seed,
which is the Word of God. This means that me must meditate on whatsoever things
are pure, good and clean and not inherit in us the spirit of intimidators, controllers,
discouragers, abusers, manipulators, and dominators.

This also means that we would not, as Christians, spread gossip and discouragements
to others and always associate ourselves with the right group of people who would help
us grow in the Word of God and nurture our Spirit, which will lead us to the truth and
fulfilment of our true destiny. "Let us, therefore, lay aside every filthiness, and super
filthy of nothingness, and receive with meekness, the engrafted word of God that is
able to save our soul." One other unique characteristics of a Dove we can exemplify as
Christians is its peaceful nature, which we can only possess if we rely solely on Jesus
Christ to give us that peace and not on any man. Jesus promised us his peace in
John 14:27: "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world
giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

If we commit ourselves to God, He will give us his peace. He gives us the peace that
surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). The devil tries to convince us or prove to us
that our environment and challenging life situations determines our peace but it's a lie. As
long us our peace is entrenched in the Holy Ghost and in the Word of God, we cannot be
moved by anything. Some men try to prove that they have the power to give us the
peace we need in our lives but we must always be reminded that peace like the Holy
Spirit can never be bought.

In Acts 8:18 when Simon tried to buy the Holy Ghost, the apostle blinded him because
he had the wrong perspective of the Spirit of God. Sometimes until we disable the
physical eyes, which is the flesh, we cannot enable the spiritual eyes! In order for us to

enjoy peace like the Dove, as promised by God, which is beyond our human
comprehension we must stay focussed with the Word of God, which promises us
peace and never allow the world and its deceptions sway us from the will and purpose
of God concerning our lives. Weeping may endure for the night but Joy cometh in the
morning!

I pray that this word will melt your bitterness, melt your hardness, melt your grudge, remove your offense, cause God's spirit to fill and overtake you. I also ask God to release His spirit of unity, peace, love, understanding to all men. I decree that lives will begin to experience supernatural peace that will change the lives of God's people, peace in the mist of the storm, fresh Holy Ghost baptism, exaltation of our heads like the horn of the unicorn, and the divine anointing of the Holy Spirit IN JESUS NAME......AMEN!!!!
